Register for an Orientation

If you are interested in obtaining a California license to operate a family child care home or a child care center you have the option to attend either an online orientation, or an in person orientation.  

Please do not use a cell phone, iPad, or tablet to take the orientation. In order to proceed with the orientation registration you need to use a laptop or a computer and provide your email address.

  • Each applicant must have their own unique email address.
  • Fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable between orientations.

Please verify that you are registering for the correct orientation. Please refer to the descriptions below to ensure you are choosing the correction orientation type:

Online Orientation for Family Child Care Homes

  • Care must be provided in the licensee’s own home
  • Licensee must live in the home
  • A Family Child Care Home reflects a home-like environment
  • Care provided is less than 24 hours
  • Can provide care for up to 14 children depending on the license
    • Small Family Child Care Homes provide care to no more than 8 children
    • Large Family Child Care Homes provide care to no more than 14 children

Online Orientation for Child Care Centers

  • Can provide care for more than 14 children
  • Directors and teachers will be required to have educational credits and experience
  • Care provided is less than 24 hours
  • May require city and/or county permits
  • A business license may be required, depending on local requirements
